On 25 April 2025, at around 1100 hrs, a patrol team from the 13 Battalion BSF, stationed at BOP Tanwar under P/S Ramgarh, District Samba, discovered old, rusted ammunition during routine patrolling. The items were found in shallow mud in an open field near Village Kamour, P/S Ramgarh. The recovered items included "Rusted rounds of 7.62 mm Light Machine Gun (LMG). A small, rusted box containing additional rounds".
The BSF patrol team secured the area upon discovery of the ammunition. A police team from Ramgarh Police Station was informed and promptly arrived at the scene to assist. The recovered items were documented and taken into custody for further investigation by the authorities.
The ammunition appeared old and rusted, suggesting it may have been abandoned or buried for an extended period. No immediate threat or suspicious activity was reported in the vicinity at the time of discovery. The items were found in an open field, not in close proximity to any residential or sensitive areas.
The rusted condition of the ammunition indicates it may be remnants from past activities, possibly discarded or forgotten. Further forensic analysis is required to determine the origin, age, and potential significance of the items. No evidence of recent militant activity or immediate security threat was observed during the patrol.
Detailed forensic examination of the recovered ammunition to ascertain its origin and type. Coordination between BSF and local police for further investigation into the circumstances of the find. Enhanced patrolling and surveillance in the area to rule out any additional caches or related threats. Submission of a detailed report to higher authorities for further directives.
