'Russian President Putin has no remorse for the attack and war on Ukraine, said India had initiated peace'

Russian President Putin said in Kazakhstan's capital Astana on Friday that he has no regrets about the Ukraine war because what his country is doing is right. The Ukrainian war has killed thousands and displaced millions, but Putin says he has no regrets. During this, he has also mentioned about India.

Significantly, even before the start of the Ukraine war, India has been saying that this issue should be resolved through peaceful talks. Although Russia kept evasive on India's proposal, on Friday, for the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that India was in favor of peaceful talks from the beginning. Putin also named China along with India. He said that both the countries are in favor of peaceful dialogue.

Putin's remarks came at a time when PM Modi, at a summit in Uzbekistan, had clearly stated that 'this era is not of war' about a month ago.

At a press conference in Astana, Putin said that "India and China support peaceful talks in Ukraine." However, during this time he said that Ukraine was not ready for talks.

PM Modi held direct talks with Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held in Samarkand city of Uzbekistan last month. During this, the PM had said that 'we all know that this era is not of war and any issue should be resolved through dialogue'.

Putin said he had no regrets about the eight-month-long war on Ukraine. He added that Russia does not aim to "destroy" its neighbour. Putin also said that a direct conflict with NATO troops would be disastrous. Putin said that for now, no further major attacks on Ukraine are planned. When Putin was asked whether he regretted the conflict in Ukraine or whether what Russia was doing was right, he said no. He said he had no remorse about the conflict in Ukraine that killed thousands, destroyed many cities and displaced millions.

But with this Putin said that what is happening today is not pleasant. But still, (if Russia had not attacked in February) we would have been in the same position, which would only make things worse for us. So we are doing everything right. Vladimir Putin has also hinted at plans ahead, saying his decision to deploy military-trained civilians to the military would be fully implemented in two weeks. Before Putin's remarks, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht had said that NATO allies should proceed with Ukraine's support and take Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons seriously.
