'Operation Jeevandan | Notorious Drug Peddler arrested, 08 gm heroin recovered'

In a significant development under the ongoing "Operation Jeevandan,"  Reasi Police successfully arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered 08 gm of heroin (like substance). This operation is part of the continuous drive launched by District Police Reasi to combat drug abuse through surprise checkpoints and stringent checking measures.

During routine night naka checking on the Reasi-Arnas Road, a police team from Police Station Reasi, along with I/C Police Post Jyotipuram, signalled a bike without a number plate to stop. The bike was approaching from Reasi towards Jyotipuram. On seeing the police party, the rider attempted to escape, but the police party swiftly apprehended him. The suspect was identified as Sumesh Bhat, son of Pintuji Bhat, a resident of Nagrota. During search 08 gm of heroin-(like substance) was recovered from his possession.

In this regard a case FIR No.123/2024 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Reasi, and investigations have been initiated to unearth the forward and backward linkages of this drug network. The entire operation was led by SHO Police Station Reasi under the supervision of Dy.SP Hqrs.Reasi, Sh.Neeraj Padyar, JKPS.

SSP Reasi, Ms.Mohita Sharma, IPS, shared details of the operation, emphasizing that Reasi Police is employing a multipronged strategy to deal with the problem of drug abuse. Awareness programs are being conducted across the district, and drug peddlers are being regularly booked under the PITNDPS Act. Additionally, Reasi Police have launched an Anti-Drug Helpline Number (9070907017) to facilitate public reporting, ensuring that the identity of callers will be kept confidential.
SSP Reasi delivered a stern message to drug peddlers, asserting that there is no place for them in Reasi. She urged those involved in drug trafficking to abandon their harmful activities and reintegrate into mainstream society, warning that those who continue on this path will be dealt with an iron hand.
