Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited the Assam Rifles (South) Headquarters at Mantripukhri in Manipur and interacted with the soldiers of Red Shield Division and Assam Rifles. During this, the Defense Minister was briefed about anti-terrorist operations and border management works along the Indo-Myanmar border to maintain peace in the region.



Addressing the Army personnel, Singh lauded the officers and soldiers for improving the security situation in Manipur and for performing their duty with courage and conviction despite the challenges of terrain and weather. He said that it is a matter of great pride to stand between the jawans of the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles.



The Defense Minister appreciated the contribution of the Red Shield Division in the 1971 war, Sri Lanka as part of the IPKF or in its current role. He appreciated the stellar role played by the Assam Rifles in the last seven decades and their immense contribution to internal security, securing the Indo-Myanmar border and bringing the Northeast into the national mainstream. "That is why you are called 'friend of the people of the Northeast' and 'Sentinel of the Northeast'," he said.



Calling upon the military personnel to keep the national flag high through unwavering dedication, Rajnath Singh said that the nation can achieve its full potential only when its borders are secure. Over 1,000 soldiers from Red Shield Division and Assam Rifles participated in the interaction with the Defense Minister.

He was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pandey, GOC-in-C Eastern Command Lt Gen RP Kalita and GOC Spear Corps Lt Gen RC Tiwari along with other senior officers of Army and Assam Rifles.
