The US Department of Homeland Security has announced that people working on work permits in the US will now be able to work in the US for more days after the expiration date. So far, immigrants working in the US get an automatic 180-day extension of service on their work permits. Now it has been increased to 540 days.
Ur M Jeddo, director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, said the 180-day automatic extension currently being offered for employment was deemed insufficient. That is why now it has been decided to increase it to 540 days. This temporary rule will provide relief to non-citizens who are eligible for automatic extension due to any reason. This will give them the opportunity to maintain their employment and provide vital support for their families. Whereas American employers will get rid of the trouble caused by this matter.
He said that immigrants applying for work permit renewal would be given an additional period of validity of 540 days from the day the work permit expires.
